In addition to my work with clothing, I pursue an independent artistic practice. My interest is mostly in texture - initially beginning from an appreciation of the natural imperfection of the leathers I’d work with in the studio, and branching out over time into other found materials.

Texture Transfer Prints

Acrylic paint is applied to various leathers (primarily horse, ponyhair, wild boar, and mink) and then stamped on paper. This is done sometimes several times, as I cover sections with white paint and apply new layers of texture.

Texture Transfer Repetition

An evolution of the methods I developed in the earlier series, on a larger scale. This piece was completed over a period of several months. The process consists of applying a coat of texture, considering the composition both actively and passively as over time as we share a space, before covering areas I perceive as incongruent with white paint and applying another series of textural stamps. In this, I hope to find balance between compositional control and the spontaneous nature of working with organic materials.

Covered Canvas

Leather is stretched across a canvas, allowing the texture and variations of the leather to become the focal point for the viewer.

Translucent Resin Experiments

A semi-transparent leather is arranged on a canvas and covered in a thin layer of clear resin. The resin acts as an adhesive to hold the leather pieces together, and creates a tonal glossy texture in area it settled during the drying process.
